Innovation and Competitive Advantages

Faced with this reality is necessary to consider the role, scope that innovation comes out as a means to gain competitive advantages that enable firms to become world-class organizations, competitive, able to successfully confront the threats and risks of a global market. Is innovative for the assimilation and incorporation of ideas into a product, service or process, being such inventions or ideas previously used but adapted uniquely to the product or service. According Sheasley (1997), innovation is the transformation or application of knowledge to a useful purpose, be it a product, system or process. This knowledge can emerge from a discovery or can adapt an existing base of knowledge. It is important to understand that the technical or technological innovations are not enough, companies must seek support such innovations, but at the same time encourage innovation in all business activity. If you work daily with the philosophy that there is always a better way of doing things and encourages workers to find those better ways, it will promote the innovative spirit of each individual as a tool for continuous improvement within the organization. Traditionally, the products passed through five different stages from launch to obsolescence. In the first stage was required to obtain innovation to achieve the stability that would allow the product to generate sufficient value to sustain itself in the market for a time.

However, at later stages was not as indispensable to innovation, but rather the efficiency with which resources are managed to maintain the operational activities that generate enough capital to produce profits. On the other hand, the life cycle of products in today's markets are characterized by a tendency rather abruptly. As expected by the short-term dynamics of the life of a product, companies in this behavior, they must respond quickly and appropriately, not only with efficient systems in managing resources, but innovative processes in both technical and administrative areas in products, services, processes, resources and other components of organizations. Do not forget that innovation is an opportunity to be a competitive advantage. Innovation coupled with excellence is a powerful combination, which together with the right information, allow the company to provide excellent and innovative product or service in the place and time indicated. With the use of improvement and optimization tools, can generate the means to be an active part of Globalization, simply must be aware that the key to continuous improvement of our organizations is not only the goal of becoming a global company but with quality and constant innovation to stay competitive with the challenge to develop this new industrial revolution. 03/11/2009
